Alfons Pomp, M.D.

Alfons Pomp, M.D., is a seasoned executive search advisor specializing in identifying and assessing leaders across health care, academic medicine, and clinical operations. Drawing on decades of experience building high-performing surgical teams, and shaping clinical programs, he brings a practitioner’s understanding of what excellence looks like inside complex health systems.
 

An internationally recognized expert in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Pomp spent more than 15 years at Weill Cornell Medicine/NewYork-Presbyterian as Chief of GI Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Leon C. Hirsch Professor of Surgery, and Vice-Chair of the Department of Surgery, where he helped recruit top clinical talent and led major program growth. He also held senior roles at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, further deepening his leadership and hiring experience across large health-care institutions.

 

He is the author of more than 180 PubMed-indexed publications, 30 book chapters, and more than 250 invited national and international presentations, and has served on the executive boards of SAGES and ASMBS as well as editorial boards for Surgical EndoscopySOARD, and Obesity Surgery. His contributions have been recognized by Castle Connolly’s America’s Top Doctors, the SAGES Clinical Excellence Award, and ASMBS’s “Thirty Members Who Made a Difference.”

 

Dr. Pomp trained at McGill University, the Université de Sherbrooke, the Université de Montréal, and Brown University and began his career at CHUM/Hôtel-Dieu in Montreal. He returned to Montreal in 2019 and currently serves as a Professor of Surgery, an attending surgeon on the Digestive Surgery Service, and Assistant Director to the CEO at the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM).
