Center for Family Life's first Chief Operating Officer:
Carlos A. Cano

Carlos A. Cano, a seasoned leader with extensive experience in nonprofit management and operational strategy, has been selected as the Chief Operating Officer for the Center for Family Life in Sunset Park (CFL), beginning end of February. His appointment follows a competitive national search conducted by Brettschneider Executive Search.
 
In this newly created role, Carlos will report directly to Co-Executive Director, Julia Jean-Francois, serving as a key strategic partner and overseeing the operational and administrative health of the 46 year-old human and social service agency. As COO, Carlos will be responsible for ensuring the seamless functioning of key areas, including Human Resources, Information Technology, Data Management, Facilities, Risk Management, and Funder Audits. He will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing a strategic plan for operations and fostering collaboration to ensure the Center can continue to effectively deliver critical services to the Sunset Park community for years to come.

Carlos’ career spans more than two decades, including his most recent role as Chief Operating Officer at Urban Upbound, where Carlos led operational improvements and program expansion efforts. Carlos previously served as Senior Director of Programs and Development and held other key leadership roles during his ten year tenure at Urban Upbound, overseeing program management, their worker cooperatives initiative, and impact evaluation. Additionally, Carlos’s professional background includes roles in business operations, risk analysis, and research, demonstrating his versatility and broad expertise.
 
Carlos holds a Master of Science in Nonprofit Management from The New School (New York, NY) and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Universidad Ricardo Palma (Lima, Peru). He has also pursued advanced studies in participatory management at Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations (New Brunswick, NJ).
 
With his extensive experience and dedication to social impact, Carlos is poised to lead CFL’s operations and advance its mission. The board and staff welcome him.

The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $175,000 annually. The Center has a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as paid time off.
Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, skills, and qualifications.
